Portrait photography often presents itself as dependent upon focus, proximity and resolution. Through exploring portrait photography as a genre online I became fascinated with the profile picture as a form of contemporary portraiture.
40 40 x 40 px : 40 x 40 in is a collection of 40 profile pictures, all originally found as 40 x 40 px files, that have been scaled to be 40 x 40 inches. While some may feel that the logic of the portrait has been subverted, I contend that much of the portrait syntax remains; leaving us to reexamine our relationship to this visual form as an artifact of our current contemporary condition.
